Default Google Voice in India

I got an invitation to join Google Voice. But when I clicked that link it said, the service is not available in India. Any way we can actually get to use this service ?

What about signing up via proxy or tunning via TOR or a VPN access ?

Lightbulb Proxy!!? yeah!

I tried signing up using a US proxy & it works.

But in step 3, it asks you for the US Phone number!!

You can get one free US number at sipgate.com (should access via US Proxy) & give that in Google Voice. Configure a SIP client (I used x-lite) to receive calls for your SIPGate number. Ask Google to verify number, receive call on your SIP phone & complete verification!!

So you end up having two US numbers, one from Google Voice & one from SIP Gate. But believe me, Google Voice is no big deal for Indians, good for US ppl.

That is one neat way of gaining access in areas where GV is not available.
I still don't have an invite, despite having a US number and all :|
Any place where I can request for an invite ?

Arrow try requesting....

@Sathya

I can only suggest you to request for one at https://services.google.com/fb/forms/googlevoiceinvite/

I guess you might have already done that.

If I may suggest, download and install Hide-My-IP. Don't bother paying for it, run it on the 30-day trial.

Register your Google Voice account. Register your SIP account (follow above posts). You don't need any more proxy or Hide-My-IP or wateva!

I am using gizmo5.com 's flash app to make google voice calls and it works like a charm. But yes, there is a slight lag which is noticeable but not annoying.
